Assessment:
Without doubt, the best golfing venue within a 25 miles radius. This is an excellent parkland golf course with a tremendous variety of trees and wildlife that provide an interesting environment even if you are having a bad day. Although there are some small gradients, the course is easy to walk. The design throws up some extremely interesting holes with every green providing a new putting challenge. In summer, with the substantial rough added, this becomes a really testing round of golf. Course maintenance is excellent at all times and the serious golfer will understand the pride that goes into preparation when he/she learns that the mechanical bunker rake that on many courses rolls to sand into unmanageably solid concrete is absent from Blankney and all bunkers are appropriately filled with quality sand and hand raked. If you are looking for pride in presentation, Blankney is the course to visit. This is a course where the greens keepers maintain the course for the the golfers and not for the greens keepers as is often the case. Generally very dry terrain makes it a good course to visit in winter although it is one of the very few remaining courses in UK to enforce a trolley ban when the ground is frosty. The clubhouse is a little gloomy, but standards of catering are very high providing the full range from excellent bar snacks to gourmet meals and the overall environment extremely friendly. Being a proprietory club, overall management is of a higher standard than one finds in those managed by ad hoc committees. For visiting societies, there are 4 buggies for hire and it is sometimes possible to add a couple to that number if required. If you are looking for a challenging society venue or if you live in the Lincoln, Ruskington or Sleaford area and are looking for a club to join, this has to be top of the list. |
